Reflections on SEMA 2024

There is a ton to unpack from this year's SEMA trade show. Besides the new product launches, SEMA is a time when everyone gets together to have deep discussions about the industry. Something that we at ADAS Depot were able to share with others was our Guide to Navigating Insurance, as well as our 2024 Benchmark Survey results.

Reception to these materials was very positive. A snippet of the Benchmark Survey Results: the ADAS market grew by an impressive 32% over the last year, with expectations of 26% growth in the coming year. If you'd like to get your hands on the full version of the Survey Benchmark results, fill our the survey here. If you want the PDF version of the Guide to Navigating Insurance, reach out to me at alvin@adasdepot.com. It's important to keep the dialogue open about billing and insurance.

ADAS Depot at SEMA

In just one year, we've grown so much. Our goal is to provide a breadth of products so that you can perform the calibrations you need to be doing.

We also launched our ADAS newsletter, which has grown tremendously. We get new subscribers almost every day, and it's so cool to see how many people are taking ADAS seriously and want to stay up to date. You can sign up at the bottom of this page.

Hardware

The following are some snippets of what we were excited by at SEMA 2024.

Autel IA700

It was really cool to see the IA700 in person. It brings the portability of the MA600, as well as the efficiency and speed of calibrations from the IA900. It also has the robotic adjustments, meaning less manual work and letting the system do work for you!

Autel IA1000

The IA1000 is not available just yet - Autel only showed a prototype. But overall, we're very excited for its release. The TV monitors act as targets and can move automatically. Plus, the arms can also self-adjust by rotating, which will make for much faster calibration times.

Topdon

We are a big fan of Topdon's battery maintainers in general, and luckily Chad was able to walk us through their booth. In summary, the Tornado 30000 is good for ADAS calibrations, wheel alignments, and other key-off, engine-on scenarios. One step up is the Tornado 90000, which is good for OEM programming of Asian and domestic vehicles. Lastly, the 120000 is the most powerful, and is suitable for programming of European makes.

Launch Tech

Since China has millions of EVs on the road, there is inevitably a need for EV repair solutions there. Launch Tech has a strong foothold in this area. They have a suite of tools including a battery maintainer, resistance testers, charge/discharge, battery equalizing tools, battery airtightness tester, and even a lift to hoist the battery out of the vehicle. Check out their products below.

XTOOL

It's clear that XTOOL is focused on providing the best value for customers in the diagnostics scan tool space, with their generous pricing and complementary software subscriptions. We also learned that Xtool is relatively new to the US market, and they are excited to expand their presence here.

Software

Overall, ADAS identification software is a relatively new landscape, but one that is growing and changing quickly.

Revv ADAS

We were impressed by Revv ADAS's growth since last SEMA. It was only last year that they were in the North Hall, tucked away with all the other software companies. However, this year, they had a spacious booth in the upper South Hall. They have also made strides partnering with both Autel and AirPro. Autel is offering first month free plus additional discounts on Revv upon purchase of a package. Their partnership with AirPro seems to go beyond just a discount; AirPro’s remote diagnostics solution will be fully integrated with a customized version of Revv’s platform, providing shops with an end-to-end solution that streamlines the calibration process.

1Source ADAS

Making their debut at last year's SEMA, 1Source is a direct competitor to Revv. They were right across from Revv's booth at SEMA this year. They claim to have accurate identifications, with their team being composed of automotive professionals who saw a need for better ADAS identification software. Their team is quite lean, which allows them to have more aggressive pricing at $5 per scrub, and no monthly minimums. Overall, it's great to see competition in this space.

Dinner with NEX

We met up with our partners NEX Automotive and had an amazing 9-course dinner at Partage, a French restaurant off-strip in Chinatown. It was my first time meeting the team, and they are a group of kind, knowledgeable guys that have decades of combined experience in collision and automotive repair.

Conclusion

We are optimistic about the industry's growth. With new hardware launches, exciting partnerships, and more, there is lots to look forward to in 2025. If there are any products or topics you would like to cover, please let me know at alvin@adasdepot.com.
